Times of Indonesia

The ''Times of Indonesia'' was a daily English-language newspaper in Indonesia, published from Jakarta.〔〔Hindley, Donald. ''(The Communist Party of Indonesia, 1951-1963 )''. Berkeley: University of California Press, 1964. p. xvii〕 Founded in 1952, it was the first English-language daily in independent Indonesia. Notorious for its aggressive, investigative journalism, it became known in its day as "the leading muck-raking paper in Jakarta".〔 The founding editor was Mochtar Lubis, who was also the editor of ''Indonesia Raya'' at the time.〔Hill, David T. ''(The Press in New Order Indonesia )''. An Equinox classic Indonesia book. Jakarta (): Equinox Publ, 1994. p. 129〕 Mochtar Lubis had close links to the army leadership.〔Feith, Herbert. ''(The Decline of Constitutional Democracy in Indonesia )''. An Equinox classic Indonesia book. Jakarta (): Equinox, 2007. p. 263〕 In 1953, Lubis stepped down from his position due to the stresses of his simultaneous editorship of ''Indonesia Raya''. Charles Tambu, from Ceylon, took over as managing editor of the newspaper.〔Hill, David T. ''(The Press in New Order Indonesia )''. An Equinox classic Indonesia book. Jakarta (): Equinox Publ, 1994. p. 28〕
In the aftermath of the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia revolt, the publishing license of ''The Times of Indonesia'' was revoked on October 31, 1960. The publication of the newspaper was thus discontinued.〔〔Mrázek, Rudolf. ''(Sjahrir: Politics and Exile in Indonesia )''. Studies on Southeast Asia, 14. Ithaca, NY: Southeast Asia Program, Cornell Univ, 1994. p. 460〕
